Not everyone with a UTI has every symptom, but most have at least one:
- Frequency/strong urge to urinate
- Painful, burning in the area of the bladder or urethra
- Tired, shaky feeling
- Pain when urinating
- Uncomfortable pressure about the pubic bone
- Urine looks cloudy or milky
In a randomized, controlled clinical trial, 137 women who experienced two or more UTIs treated with antibiotic in the previous 12 months were selected to receive either 500 mg of Cran-Max or 100 mg of trimethoprim per day for six months. The researchers found that the time of first recurrence of the UTI was not significantly different between groups. The researchers concluded that in the first head-to-head, double-blind comparison of cranberry versus antibiotic prophylaxis, trimethoprim had a very limited advantage over Cran-Max in the prevention of recurrent UTIs in older women, while Cran-Max produced none of the adverse effects associated with trimethoprim, including diarrhea, upset stomach, and yeast infection.
In addition, trimethoprim is contraindicated for warafin and should not be taken together. Unlike other cranberry products, UtyMax does not contain bromalin and do not interact with warafin or any other medications. UtyMax is a medical food.
